The Telecommunications and Information Policy Group (TIPG) of the University of Hawaii (UH) realizes that there is a growing demand for cost effective electronic health record (EHR) systems and a lack of training and trained personnel to support them. Therefore, TIPG has established the VistA Institute, an OpenVista / VistA training and certification program.
The VistA Institute will offer an industry endorsed education and certification program, providing clinical application coordinator (CAC) and system administrator (SA) training and support. The VistA Institute will be implemented in two phases: 1) the design and development of two tracks of curriculum (clinical application coordinator and system administrator) which will be formed into two pilot courses; and 2) the implementation and deployment of these two courses. The overall objective of the VistA Institute is to increase the level of training available for administrators and users of the VistA and Hui OpenVista™ software, which will enable health care facilities to implement and maintain either FOIA VistA or Hui OpenVista™.
